Cool roofing is the act of making a roof white and reflective (ratio of reflected energy to total incident energy) optimal to repel solar radiation. This can lower the temperature inside the treated structure by up to 14.8% in summer, and save up to 60% of the energy needed to air-condition this building.
And in winter? Some coatings are designed to also reflect the infrared radiation emitted from inside the building, allowing the indoor temperature to increase by an average of 3.84°C.
Pre-Operation Assessment
Inspect the roof's condition
If your roof is more than ' years old, it is likely that moss and lichens have started to take hold. We will then offer you an economical product based on lactic acid and ethanol to neutralize these mosses before coating.
This product cleans and removes deposits from your roof. It contains 99.5% naturally derived substances. Its formula is eco-responsible, without environmental classification unlike ammonium quaternary- or chlorine-based formulas. It is non-foaming and shows visible results in just 24 hours. Economical, it can be used diluted at 50%. It is inert on materials.
Assess potential savings
Using a reflective, eco-friendly paint known as "Cool Roof" offers many advantages, both in summer and winter:
In summer, solar rays are reflected back into space, drastically reducing the roof surface temperature and therefore heat transfer into the building. This leads to a reduction in air-conditioning use of up to 30%.
In winter, the insulating properties of the paint protect the original roofing from moisture, which reduces energy loss.
Indoor air quality is improved. Reduced use of air-conditioning decreases the amount of fine particles emitted, among other benefits.
Photovoltaic panels see their lifespan and profitability increase (because the roof surface temperature is lowered).
The paint fills microcracks, increasing the roof's waterproofing and durability.
This technique is inexpensive compared with installing a green roof, both in terms of installation and maintenance.

Depending on the condition of your roof, several solutions are possible. A liquid coating will provide a thin, durable protective layer but is not strictly waterproofing, or a cool-roof waterproofing membrane which will perform both functions. We will offer the option best suited to your situation.

Treat the roof for moss and lichens
Without appropriate roof moss removal, mosses will continue to grow regardless of obstacles. They can grow around, cover, or even slightly lift coverings to keep expanding.
The damage they cause to roofing materials will compromise your roof's waterproofing. Rainwater then infiltrates those exposed spaces, allowing mold to develop under the tiles. Moisture can also reach your ceilings, which will force you into major repairs.
Before installing a cool roof, it is necessary for your roof to be in the best possible condition. It may be necessary to remove moss partially or completely to eliminate any elements that could harm the quality and longevity of the coating. We use an eco-friendly product for this operation.
Clean the roof
A high-pressure cleaning will be carried out across the entire roof if it is not recent. On a newer roof, at minimum the surface must be rinsed or vacuumed to prevent any dust.
Bonding primer
It is necessary to apply a primer coat so that the membrane created by the coating bonds to the existing covering and to prevent bituminous bleed-through.
Apply two coats of cool roof coating
It requires two coats to achieve perfect reflectivity. The coating we use is a high-quality, durable, thermo-reflective, hybrid acrylic elastomeric coating that improves the building's thermal performance, especially in summer.
Protect with a mineral resin
To keep the cool roof as white as possible, we apply a protective film with UV-protective (anti-aging for the underlying layers) and self-cleaning properties.
Ensure proper execution of the project
A thorough site inspection will be performed at the end of the work, with touch-ups if necessary.
